Christmas
Christmas is an exceptional holiday in Slovakia, and its celebration is associated with many traditions. A few weeks before Christmas, shops, towns and villages are decorated with Christmas decorations, trees, various lights and decorations. Stores and business - entertainment centers attract customers to shop for gifts. Several days before Christmas, Christmas markets are being held in several cities, selling Christmas decorations, snacks, Christmas wafers, mead, various small items, and home craft products.
Housewives decorate their homes a few days before Christmas, no artificial or lively Christmas tree is missing in any household. Live trees can be bought at city markets. On sale are fir, spruce, pine. People decorate the trees with sweetness, adornments and lights. Christmas starts every 24.12. This day is called Christmas Day in Slovakia. During the day, an evening is prepared, Christmas cakes are dipped, Christmas decorations are finished. In the evening, the family meets at dinner, which is the main point of the day. The Christian families are praying together since Christmas because Christmas is a significant Christian holiday.
A Christmas wafer with honey is served at dinner, and in some families it is also served with garlic to make it healthy for the whole year. She gets used to eating fruit, most often apple divided for everyone by piece. Following is a soup, different species are served in different regions, somewhere in the pea soup, somewhere in the Christmas cabbage, some bean soup or lentil soup or a combination of them. The next Christmas ceremony is made of fish and potato mayonnaise salad. The fish is mostly fried or baked, with fish or carp fillets on the tables. Many households buy live carp before Christmas, which they sell in stores only in pre-Christmas time. Then they are served with opekans, sometimes called puppies, with macadam or cottage cheese. After dinner, members of the family unpack the gifts they gave each other under the tree. The greatest joy in this part of the Christmas dinner is for children. If they are smaller, they think the gifts are worn under the tree Jesus. When they are bigger, they find that parents and relatives give them gifts, but the joy of gifts does not diminish. After dinner, the family spends time together, eating fruits, cakes and various Christmas pastries. A typical Christmas cake is called a cake or a folk-cake, a cake made up of poppy, nut, lacquer and quark layers.
